“Actors labour to build moments,” Fr Jim Clery patiently explained to hysterically sobbing five year old, Malachy Ryan (above left), who plays a Roman centurion in Clery’s powerful new film, Nativity 2020, A Socially Distanced Celebration.
“And these moments are key to how the play reveals its meaning,” he continued, “only if the actors say their lines the way they’ve been told to say them?”
“So I need you to say ‘Everyone must go to the town where they were born to be counted’, not ‘counteded’, ok?”
As the five year old’s sobbing diminshed, Fr Jim clapped his hands and shouted, “From the top everyone and remember, I don’t want you to act, I want you to ‘be‘? “
